Situation

The LJ3200 has had the following Software and Firmware Updates.  Note:  If the customer is receiving faxes to their PC, both the software and firmware updates are required.

Firmware Fixes:  (Note:The Firmware Update Utility does not require the installation of the printing software.)

·         After a period of normal operation, the hp LaserJet 3200 is unable to send or receive faxes until the product is turned on and off.

·         Small faxes containing less than one line of text may not show they have been received when receiving faxes to the computer. This particular fix requires a firmware and software upgrade.

·         Improved the printing time of the Speed Dial or Phonebook Report

·         Minimizes "Empty PhoneBook" messages when uploading the phonebook from the 3200 to the computer using the HP LaserJet Device Configuration software.

Software Fixes:

* Windows XP Compatible

The installer now properly installs on Windows XP systems.  A   dialog box will now appear in the beginning of the installation process and   ask the user to plug in the device.  Previously, to install successfully, a user would have to choose "DOT4_00x" at the ports screen instead of LPT1: or USB.  This has now been corrected to  work in either case.

* Windows 2000 Plug and Play Install

During a Plug-n-Play Driver Install using the "Add New Hardware  Wizard" on Windows 2000, the English PCL6 driver will be selected  as the default regardless of locale.  For all driver and language

options, check the "Driver Files Search Results" screen, click  "Next", and then select your driver and language of choice.

* Improved Asian Performance using PCL6

Print performance on Asian systems has dramatically improved in some situations.  This results in smaller files being generated and sent down to the device.

* Scan Help File Errors

Accessing help in the Scan Control Viewer would generate a missing file error.  This file has been updated.

* Updated "Monitor Device" translation within HP LaserJet Director

The German translation of "Monitor Device" in the LaserJet Director menu was updated for the appropriate context.

* Improved the Preview Quality when Viewing Faxes Received to the PC

The HP LaserJet Document Manager preview quality for Faxes received to the PC has been significantly improved.

* Eliminated some debug assertion failures when attempting to scan

On Windows 98 systems, the file MSVCIRT.DLL did not reside on the host system.  The installer now installs this file if not present in the C:\Windows\System directory.

* Fixed System Resource Loss when manual duplexing

Fixed a memory leak in the driver that would cause the system to lose resources each time a document was manually duplexed under Windows Terminal Server or Citrix Metaframe.

* Expanded scanning permissions to include Power User

Windows 2000 users were required be have Administrator privileges to scan using the LaserJet software.  This has been expanded to allow users with Power User permissions to scan.

* Removed duplicate resolution entries

The HP LaserJet Director has a selection box in the setup dialogs that allows a user to select a scan resolution.  This no longer has duplicate entries in it.

* Updated the Archive Feature to prompt for a filename

The archive button on the HP LaserJet Director used to save to the same filename, overwriting the previously archived file.  It now prompts the user for a filename.

* Added multi-page tiff capability to the HP LaserJet Director (isn’t it .tif?)

The HP LaserJet Director now provides a multi-page tiff file type option in the button customization setup dialogs.

* Updated the Network Print Install Wizard to include correct languages

Incorrect languages were sometimes included when installing the product in a networked environment.  This has now been updated to include the correct languages.

* Improved Receiving Faxes to PC feature

Notifications sent to the PC were missed by the software in some situations when a fax was received to the device while another was being uploaded to the PC

*  Faxes are shown in the fax log, but never appear in the Received Faxes

folder.  Fax image files will be generated correctly in the Received faxes folder.

 * A firmware datecode of 20011015 is required to completely fix all

Receive to PC issues.  To check which version of firmware your device has, please visit http://www.hp.com/support/lj3200.

* Fax Log Entry Corruption

Clicking the fax log button in the HP LaserJet Document Manager numerous times in rapid succession results in the fax logs becoming corrupted.  Strange results in the fax logs could result.

* Correctly Reporting Errors in Fax Logs

In the LaserJet Document Manager, the errors reported from faxes were sometimes incorrect.  These have been updated to display the correct errors now.

* Grayed out Receive to PC on Windows 95

The receive to PC feature is not supported on Windows 95, so it now disabled in the Device Configuration Manager.

* Added Office XP as a scanning destination

This product was released before Office XP was available.  The software now supports Office XP applications.

* Fixes Drag and Drop Errors on NT4.0 SP4

After Printing System installation, dragging and dropping from any application would be disabled.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 4.0 and Earlier Changes

------------------------------------------------------------------

* Corrects "Error writing to LPT1" problems when trying to print from Windows 98 or Windows ME.

This problem occurs when a print driver that uses an old version of hpdcmon.dll was installed before the LaserJet 3200 was installed.  The LaserJet 3200 installer would not replace the  old copy of hpdcmon.dll and the old version is unable to take advantage of some new functionality.

* Prevents some scanned documents from being altered by providing functionality to disable analysis.

Analysis behavior can be modified by changing the Analyze setting in the hppscan.ini file.  Hppscan.ini is located in the "Hewlett-Packard\LaserJet All-in-one" directory which is installed by default in the "Program Files" directory.  To modify the behavior of analysis open hppscan.ini with notepad and change Analyze to one of the following settings:

  0:  Never use analysis.

  1:  Always use Analysis (factory default).

  2:  Analyze only when OCR is required.

Please note that this will not revert to a previous setting upon reboot or by closing the HP LaserJet Director and the setting does not affect TWAIN scans.

* Allows the user to scan pages longer than 11 inches.

* Prevents missing pages when scanning multi-page documents.

* Resolves scanning problem which caused bottom one inch to be lost (non-TWAIN scans).

These problems occur when attempting to scan a document that is longer than 11 inches from the HP LaserJet Director.  The patch provides two solutions for these problems.

  1.  The default paper size is set to either A4 or letter based on the country detected in the regional settings.

  2.  The file hppscan.ini can be modified to specify custom paper sizes.  To change the length of the paper size scanned, add a variable to the [MainIni] section of the hppscan.ini file and set it equal to the length in hundredths of an inch.

       For instance, to scan Legal paper size modify hppscan.ini by adding AlHeight=1400 as shown below.

        [MainIni]

        AlHeight=1400

        ScanColor=0

        ScanMode=0

        JPEGQuality=90

        ShowEmailTypes=1

        EmailFileType=pdf

        PDFImageOnly=0

        PDFMonochrome=0

        PDFTextDPI=300

        PDFDrawingsDPI=300

        PDFPhotosDPI=150

        PDFJPGQuality=80

        MultiPageTif=0

        TifCompression=0

        TxtLineBreaks=1

        MergeBackground=1

        8BitPdfText=0

        Analyze=1

        LineArtToPhoto=3

        [PublishToWeb]

        Readiris=0

Some common values for the ALHeight variable are:

1100  --  Letter   (11.00 inches)

1169  --  A4                   (11.69 inches)

1400  --  Legal               (14.00 inches)

To change the size of paper scanned, change the value of AlHeight or remove it completely to use the default paper size as described in solution 1.

* Fixes some "missing DLL" error messages.

The installer in the previous version of software installed components based on the language detected.  One of the software components used different DLL's based the language detected.  The installer and the software component used different methods to determine the language.  As a result a condition could arise where the software component could attempt to use a DLL that the installer did not install.

* Corrects abnormal naming of temporary files.

The previous version of software created a small file in the WINNT folder when the HP LaserJet Director was closed.

* User-selected default file format is retained when scanning to email using the LaserJet Director.

 With the previous version of software the file format for scan to email would revert back to pdf even though another format was specified.

* Enables users to fax Hebrew characters.

In previous versions of the software, users were unable to fax Hebrew characters. This functionality is now supported.

* Improved image quality when previewing sent faxes.

The image quality when previewing faxes before sending them from the PC has been improved.
